It was good to see a lot of people that showed up for this weekend's race, and it could always use more.
I presume the largest factor in getting people racing is getting the word out on when the races are being held, which in my opinion boils down to getting the word out to those out of the race loop. Not everyone is on S-Grid. I overheard someone asking questions to Bryan Rock (when are the races, when is the next one, etc) at the track this past Sat. Just starting up a suggestion thread to help that end and get the word out.
I'll start with a suggestion that may already be in place.
Consistently leaving a new voicemail message on the main Finishline phone number (433-RACE) indicating the next upcoming race date and time could be a reliable source for people finding out race information. A quick message saying :
“Welcome to Finishline, located at Nellis and ____. Next race is on Saturday September 2, 2006. Track opens at ____, races start at 6:00 pm to around 11:00pm. See ya there.“
This method was used when I was racing in Hawaii (races once a month). Even if I knew a race was coming up, I'd call to make sure. It worked well. It should be a specific message on the next race instead of a generic message indicating like "races every Saturday, 6pm" because one would not know if that is current information or not. Hobby stores could offer up the phone number for those inquiring on races.
Another idea may be to put a whiteboard in the storefront facing out, stating the same information: Date and time of next upcoming race. People who show up when the track is closed at least can get some information.
Again, maybe these kind of measures is already being done, and maybe there are other more efficient methods of getting the word out, but just trying to get a suggestion thread going to help get more and especially new people out.
